The Ultimate “R”

If you’re a writer, you know that “R” stands for Rejection. We work hard honing our craft, writing draft after draft trying for perfection…or at least something close. Anxiety and hope blend into one as we hit the send key or, lick a book of stamps and mail sample chapters and synopsis bye-bye.

It happens. You have to learn from the “R” and move past it. But what if the “R” is a “Y” in disguise? Do you know what to look for? How to read between the lines and give the editor or agent what they want?

I’m collecting stories of the ultimate “R” for an article (my other self is a magazine writer). If you’d like to share your own ultimate “R”, please post a comment.

Thanks.
Cass

  1. Rhonda Says:

Do you mean an R that turned into a Y? Or an R that motivated you to either move in a new direction or improve your story?

  2. Cass Says:

Actually, Rhonda, I mean both. If you have a story to tell, please share it. I think it helps us as writers to realize that an R isn’t the end of the world, even if it comes from our favorite publisher or hoped for agent.
