Answers to Shifter Pop Quiz

Okay, so you took the pop quiz. How did you do? I’ve gathered the answers from their hiding places and have them right here for you.

1. What type of shifters travel in a pack?

WOLVES travel in a pack. Technically, wolf shapeshifters are not werewolves since they were not bitten or created and change completely into their animal form.

2. Can you name the type of shifter from Asian folklore that turns into a fox?

KITSUNE are a part of Japanese folklore and legend. These magickal shifters transform into foxes.

3. Which shifters also breath fire?

DRAGONS not only breath fire, but these high flying shapeshifters have an immense wing-span.

4. These shifters are usually powerful Native American shamans.

SKINWALKERS use strong “medicine” to change into wolves, crows, ravens, and many other forms, since their power comes from the elemental magick of the earth and the sky, they are not limited to a single animal form, although they may have their favorite or one that they identify with better.

5. When is a vampire considered a shifter?

WHEN HE OR SHE TURNS INTO A BAT, they are using their ability to shapeshift. Not all vampires have this ability, depending on home ground or earth, and heritage.

6. What shifter can trace their line to the Kobalds of Prussian folklore?

BEARS and some Manitou shifters can trace their lines back to the Kobalds.

7. Is a Werewolf a shifter? True or False?

FALSE. Werewolves begin the transformation, but do not complete the final shift to true animal form, thus they are not truly a shifter. Also, the werewolf is usually bitten or created; for a shifter the change is inherent in their bloodline.

8. Can you guess which type of shifter my hero is from my upcoming story Shifting Tides: Beneath A Midnight Sea?
Destin MacCodrum is a warrior Selkie, also known as a Hooded Seal. :)

It is said that the Selkies were created by the Great Celtic God of the Seas, Manannán mac Lir, Lord of the Land Under Wave.

The waters between the Isle of Arran and the Isle of Man were home to the rider of the Manned Seas. He traveled in a water borne chariot the ancients called the Ocean Sweeper, and pulled by steeds made from the water, and of many shapes, all pleasing. His favorite was named Enbarr (Waterfoam), and most times the beast appeared as a giant seahorse, other times as a large dolphin.

Manannán did make a sidh mound as a palace for each noble Sons of Míl. He presented them with three gifts: the feth fiada (a cloak of invisability which was a sort of magickal mist), the feast of Goibnia (to slow aging and ward off death), and a sty of magickal pigs that would be reborn from their very bones. :)

He also was a mannimorph. ;) He could change himself into whatever he pleased. Many times, t’was said he was spotted in the form of three spiralled legs, turned as a wheel. The people of the Isle of Man called this strange, but favored form, a triskelion. :D

Destin is a Selkie warrior blessed by the Irish God of the Seas. He holds gifts of the feth fiada, and the blessings of the feast. Selkies are members of the Sidhe, the faery folk, and are known as fierce warriors and guardians. Very proud, honorable and fiercely loyal, the Selkie race do take human lovers from time to time and are considered rather insatiable. ;)

To my mother’s people there is a saying…

Is ann aig na roin tha brath!

It means…only the seals know! I hope you enjoyed my little pop quiz.

Sláinte!
