Catch the Derby Fever!
This week happens to be Kentucky Derby Week in my hometown! Balloon races, steamboat races, bed races, in fact every kind of race you can imagine…oh, and yes––horses. LOL
The Pegasus Parade and all the beautiful floats will be this
next week, too. Lots of fun to be had! Celebrities are going to start flooding into the hotels and the airport, and everyone is gearing up to party. Did I mention parties? More parties are held Derby Week in Louisville than just about any other time or place. Why? Because we love to celebrate, and gamble. And let me tell ya, it’s a gamble if we calculated right on the amount of booze we bought for the party! LOL.
And just as there will be a multitude of parties on Derby Eve and Derby Day and Night, there will be all kind of party styles, too. Some are laid back, others are ultra swank, some are country, others rock on hard. The most fun is to Party hop! Just like bar hopping, you try to see how many parties you can go to in 48 hours! If you are still standing after it’s over, you win! LOL. The winner is crowned Life of the Party!
But as much as we love Derby, the Oaks is really for the locals. We’ve claimed it and we aren’t giving it up. The Oaks is different in that all the horses running in it are three year old fillies. So it’s the girls day out and time to shine, and you have gotta love that!
If you want to learn more about the Kentucky Derby, The Oaks, Churchill Downs or Kentucky, go to: www.churchilldowns.com
or www.kentuckytourism.com
And nope, they didn’t pay me, and I don’t work for the board of tourism…but you know, they should! LOL
So, what do you think of my Derby hat? Isn’t it gorgeous? I had to put it to a vote on my website, but we have a winner and this was it. I am going to be wicked awesome this Derby Day! Wee! If you watch the Derby on TV, you might catch a glimpse of me. I’ll be the redhead with the mint juliep, screaming her head off, cheering for the winner…which will hopefully be the horse I bet! LOL. Ya’ll have a great week!
